Summary: The Controller provides finance department support to the accounting department and directly to the COO/CEO.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Maintains records of financial transactions by establishing accounts; posting transactions; ensure legal requirements compliance.
  • Develops system to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts.
  • Maintains subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
  • Records numerical and financial data to produce financial records.
  • Ensures financial data is entered correctly and accurately. Generates accounting and audit reports for cash receipts, accounts payable and receivable, expenditures, and profits and losses.
  • Reconciles and reports differences or issues found in financial records.
  • Set up records for new projects. Organize contract information and track project process. Reconcile job costs and close out files upon project completion.
  • Approve project related invoices.
  • Ensure billings do not exceed approved budget limits and works with the Project Manager to resolve
  • Enter and track change orders once approved by In-House Project Managers and property owners. Follow up with managers as need to ensure timely review, approval and recording.
  • Coordinate the approval and payment of vendor bills in timely manner.
  • Review and process contract invoices and property billings. Monitor projects throughout the months for completeness and accuracy of documentation, approvals and statuses. Follow up with project managers or other appropriate departments on open items.
  • Maintain management reporting for the In-House Project Department. Assist in monitoring budgets and expenses for individual projects and department revenue and expenses. Prepare and book monthly journal entries related to financial statements Preparation of Corporate Taxes.
  • Budgeting
  • CPA knowledge a plus.
  • Familiar in setting up Financial Audit processes and procedures.
  • Cash Flow Analysis reporting. Completion of Work in Progress Reports.
  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial data analysis.
  • Ability to use accounting software to record, store, and analyze financial data.
  • Ability to efficiently operate a 10-key calculator or equivalent and other related office equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures. Excellent written and oral communication skills.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
  • At least five years of finance controller experience preferred.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
